Rangers might have lost the title to Celtic this season, but they have given their fans enough hope for the next campaign. The improvement is there for everyone to see, and all Rangers need to do is add a few impact players and bring consistency to their game.
One area where they will need reinforcements is in the centre back position. The Gers were linked with Edson Mexer recently, but he went on to join Bordeaux. Another rumour doing the rounds is about Oldham Atheltic’s centre half George Edmundson. Quite a few clubs are after him, and Rangers are going to face a fierce battle to sign him.
Which signing Rangers should concentrate on?
Amidst all this, there was one report in April from the Football Scotland which mentioned Rangers being interested in Norwich City’s Timm Klose. However, for the past few weeks, there has been no update regarding Rangers’ pursuit of the defender. Gerrard made an extra effort to sign Mexer as he went to meet the player personally. We believe the gaffer needs to pull out all the stops to sign Klose for Rangers after missing out on Mexer.
Why is Klose a safe bet for the Gers?
The 17 times Swiss international is going to be available on a free transfer, and the experienced man is precisely what Rangers need right now. Klose played a decent role for the Canaries this season as he made 33 appearances for them in all competitions. He lost his place to the young and impressive Ben Godfrey as the season went by and he might be surplus to requirements now that the Canaries have made it to the Premier League.
Rangers are likely to add atleast two defenders in the upcoming summer transfer window as they are going to lose the services of Gareth McAuley and Joe Worrall. Rangers desperately need to add an experienced member at the back as the current defenders have been behind some avoidable errors. Klose can be a leader in defence, and he can help his side organise the backline. The 31-year-old is also comfortable with the ball at his feet.
Klose has that physical side to his game which is often necessary for defenders to thrive in the Premiership. He is strong in the air, and one can expect him to pop up with crucial goals from set pieces. Rangers need impact players who will start delivering the result straightaway in the upcoming season, and Klose can be a top option to have on a free transfer.
