Tottenham Hotspur Closing In On This Ligue 1 Midfielder: Wise Move For Spurs?

According to a recent report by L’Equipe (translated by Football.London), Tottenham Hotspur have made a move to secure the services of Olympique Lyonnais midfielder Tanguy Ndombele later this summer. The same source has also mentioned that Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has been impressed by the French powerhouse’s performances in the UEFA Champions League this season but will face stiff competition from Paris Saint-Germain in pursuit of the Ligue 1 sensation.

Ndombele’s Rapid Rise In European Football

The 22-year-old has experienced a brilliant campaign with Lyon thus far after putting in some eye-catching displays for them during this season. He has featured in 47 matches for the French outfit this term, registering two goals while creating eight assists across all competitions.

Even at this early stage of his career, the Longjumeau born starlet has already managed to earn four international caps for France so far and could be destined to play a significant role for them in the coming years.

Ndombele is also versatile enough to play in multiple positions at the centre of the park. He primarily operates as a box to box midfielder but is equally effective while being deployed in a more defensive role in midfield or down the right flank.

Ndombele can make some penetrative runs from midfield using his pace and power. He also possesses the ability to open up a rigid defence with his stellar vision and passing accuracy in the opposition half. The French wonderkid is a prospect for the future and could become a household name in European football if he can continue making rapid progress on the pitch.

The acquisition of a player like Ndombele could increase competition for the likes of Eric Dier, Moussa Sissoko, Harry Winks and Victor Wanyama at the new White Hart Lane next season. The French midfielder has proven his worth in the Champions League, and so he could be a useful asset for Tottenham if Pochettino can win the race to sign him in this offseason.

Ndombele can also be considered as an excellent long-term replacement for Mousa Dembele who had left the North London club back in January. Thus, it might prove to be a brilliant deal for Spurs which could help them bridge the gap to Liverpool and Manchester City at the top of the Premier League standings next term.
