Rangers and Steven Gerrard have let their interest known for Liverpool’s winger Ryan Kent. The manager has already indicated that he is doing everything in his means to get the English winger back on an anther loan spell. The option of buying him permanently seems to be out of bounds as various reports have claimed that Liverpool will demand £12m for him.
Latest reports from the Scottish Sun as cited by Daily Record suggests that Aston Villa are lining up a £10m bid for Kent. This should come as a body blow to Gerrard and Co as Liverpool might look to sell him permanently.
The English winger impressed in his first season in Scotland and the 22-year-old improved as the season went by. Kent won Rangers’ young player of the season award, and almost everyone is unanimous about the fact that the winger should be signed up again by Rangers.
The Englishman himself has indicated that he would like to play for the Gers. However, the ball is currently in Liverpool’s court. One would think that Rangers have a trump card in the form of Gerrard who shares a great relationship with the Reds hierarchy. But in business deals, we don’t see the manager being able to influence much if other prospective teams come up with an offer of £10-12m.
Are Rangers already preparing for life without Kent?
The Gers are currently also being linked with a move for Sheyi Ojo, and it is surprising to see Rangers being linked with so many wingers as they have already secured the signings of Jordan Jones and Jake Hastie. Maybe Rangers’ interest in Ojo suggests that they have lost out on the battle for Kent. Recently reports suggest that Gerrard has taken giant strides in bringing in Ojo.
Rangers already have wingers like Glenn Middleton, Jamie Murphy, Eros Grezda and Daniel Candeias in their repertoire. We don’t see why Gerrard would want to have both Kent and Ojo when the deals for Jones and Hastie have already been finalised. So maybe the gaffer has been made aware that Kent is out of bounds especially after the interest from Villa who are coming up with a bid close to Liverpool’s valuation.
However, we are just assuming those things for now, and nothing is official. The Gers are still very much in the race for the six goals winger. But as things stand, it seems like he has drifted out of bounds after an impressive season at Ibrox.
