According to a recent report by the Daily Mirror, West Ham United are interested in securing the signature of Chelsea outcast Gary Cahill. The same source has revealed that the English defender is desperate for regular first-team football after being ignored throughout most of this campaign.

Cahill’s Frustrating Season At Stamford Bridge

Cahill has just managed to earn 21 minutes of Premier League football under Maurizio Sarri’s tutelage this season. Hence, a change in scenery could help him reignite his career in English football. The 33-year-old is about to embark upon the twilight years of his career, so he is in dire need of playing regularly for his team as his time as a player is gradually running out.

Why Should West Ham Consider Recruiting The English Defensive Ace?

The Hammers can benefit from acquiring the services of an experienced centre-back like Gary Cahill. His vast experience and know how to win major silverware will add a winning mentality to Manuel Pellegrini’s squad. Furthermore, Cahill will also be a positive influence in the West Ham dressing room due to his leadership qualities.

Hence, the East London outfit should consider sealing a move for the former Bolton Wanderers defensive ace. The Dronfield born talent has featured in a total of seven matches for the Pensioners this term; however, most of his appearances have been in the cup competitions. He has also secured 61 international caps for England during his career.

There is no doubt that Sarri doesn’t fancy playing Cahill in the bigger matches so no one will blame the defender if he decides to seek a move away from Stamford Bridge at the end of this campaign. At 33, the English centre-half still has a few years left in him to play at a high level.

Is Cahill The Right Choice For The Hammers?

Furthermore, Cahill will also increase competition for the likes of Issa Diop, Angelo Ogbonna and Fabian Balbuena in Pellegrini’s starting XI. The Hammers need to improve their squad depth if they are to challenge for a top 6 place in the upcoming campaign.

Hence, the Chelsea defender could be an excellent option for them to pursue during the course of this summer transfer window.
