According to a recent report by the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in securing the services of AS Roma midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo during the summer transfer window. The same source has also revealed that the Roma wonderkid is being valued around £35m with Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino targetting promising young players in the upcoming transfer period.
Zaniolo’s Recent Emergence In Italian Football
The Massa born midfield ace came through the youth ranks of Fiorentina before making a switch to play for the Entella Under-19 side on a free transfer back in 2016. The Italian starlet was soon snapped up by Inter Milan, but he struggled to secure any first-team opportunities at the San Siro and was quickly transferred out to AS Roma at the start of this campaign.
The 19-year-old has made his name at Rome after putting in some majestic performances for Claudio Ranieri’s side during this campaign. Zaniolo has made 33 appearances for the Italian outfit this term, scoring six goals while creating two assists across all competitions.
At such a young age, he has already managed to secure two international caps for Italy and is destined to play an integral role for his country if he can continue progressing as a footballer.
What Will He Add To Pochettino’s Side?
Zaniolo has decent pace under his belt and can complete dribbles from midfield without losing possession of the ball. He has also started to contribute with goals and assists going forward which is always a positive sign for a player of his tender age.
However, he is yet to prove his worth outside Italy, so there are some concerns regarding his ability to adapt to the physicality and high intensity of English football.
Is The Italian Wonderkid The Right Fit For Spurs?
At 19, the Italian starlet has a bright future in European football and could be nurtured into a world-class prospect by Pochettino in the coming years. The Argentine manager has managed to get the best out of the young players at his disposal as evidenced by the recent rise of Delle Alli, Harry Winks and Davinson Sanchez. Hence, Zaniolo will be an excellent fit for the North London giants as he could come in and help them secure some silverware in the coming years.
