Manchester City will travel to Old Trafford to clash heads with their bitter rivals, Manchester United on Wednesday night. The Citizens could go back to the top of the Premier League standings with a win in midweek, so Pep Guardiola is expected to name his strongest starting XI versus the Red Devils.
The visitors come into this game on the back of a narrow 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday. Last weekend’s victory will give them a lot of confidence heading into this derby at the Theatre of Dreams.
Guardiola will opt for a 4-3-3 formation and may choose to bring Fernandinho back for this league encounter against Man United.
4-3-3 Manchester City Predicted Lineup To Face Manchester United
Defence
Ederson will start in between the sticks for the visitors after keeping a clean sheet against Spurs last weekend. The centre-half pair of John Stones and Aymeric Laporte could lineup at the heart of the Man City defence as they try to neutralise the threat of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial on Wednesday night.
Kyle Walker will continue as the right-back while Benjamin Mendy should get the nod to feature on the other side in the left-back position. Guardiola would hope that his defenders don’t get complacent in the derby and can maintain the same high level of performance from their recent league matches.
Midfield
The Citizens could lineup with a midfield three of Kevin De Bruyne, Fernandinho and Bernardo Silva as they look to dictate play in midfield and establish Man City’s domination at the centre of the park.
De Bruyne has enjoyed a rich vein of form in recent weeks so he will be expected to create some chances for the front players.
Attack
Guardiola might revert to his strongest frontline comprised of Leroy Sane, Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling. Both Sane and Sterling will look to wreak havoc in the final third while Aguero tries to get his name on the scoresheet in midweek.
Riyad Mahrez and David Silva may have to settle for a place on the Man City bench, but they could play a part in the derby if required.
