According to the latest reports from the Daily Record, Hibernian FC could launch a raid for Rangers midfielder Greg Docherty. Graeme Mathie who is a scout for the Hibs has been a regular at Shrewsbury’s game this season where Docherty is on loan. However, the decision is still in Gerrard’s hand as the Hibs can only sign him if the gaffer gives the green light to sell him.

With the current options that Rangers have in midfield, he might be tempted to cash in on Docherty. The signing of Glen Kamara has been a crucial one for Gerrard, and we expect the Finnish international to play a crucial role in this side. Apart from that, Gerrard brought in veteran midfielder Steven Davis to Ibrox on loan.

The Northern Irish international has looked impressive, and we feel that Gerrard should look to sign him permanently in the summer. Apart from that, Gerrard can call upon the services of Ryan Jack, Ross McCrorie and Scott Arfield who have impressed on occasions this season.

Should Gerrard consider keeping Docherty?

Docherty will have a hard time getting minutes at Ibrox, but Gerrard must consider his form with Shrewsbury. The midfielder has contributed with ten goals and 11 assists this season and those are certainly impressive numbers for a midfielder.

Rangers are in desperate need of a playmaker, and maybe Docherty could be the creative spark which Rangers need. The club shouldn’t look to sell the midfielder in the upcoming summer.

The midfielder has often maintained that he wants to succeed at Ibrox and he should be awarded an opportunity to impress Rangers after his impressive loan stint. The midfielder was signed by Graeme Murty 18 months ago from Hamilton Accies for £650,000. It would be interesting to see how much the Hibs would be willing to bid for the midfielder. We expect them to offer something similar to which Rangers paid to Hamilton.

The Gers will also lose the services of Lassana Coulibaly after his loan spell ends so Rangers might need that extra midfielder in the squad. We believe that Gerrard should atleast keep him for the next six months and give him a chance to impress in training in the summer.

Docherty still has his contract at Ibrox until 2022, so the club should be in no hurry in deciding about his future. We do feel that Docherty can come in handy and given that he is still 22, there is still room for improvement in his game.
