According to a recent report by Kicker, Liverpool have held talks with Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi’s agent to discuss a potential deal in the summer. The same source has revealed that the Pensioners have no intention of parting ways with the English wonderkid at the end of this campaign even though he would have just a year left to run in his contract.
The West London outfit will be taking a massive gamble by keeping him at the club beyond this summer as they risk losing him for free when his current deal runs out next year. However, FIFA imposed a two transfer window ban on Chelsea which makes it a necessity for Maurizio Sarri to keep hold of as many of his talents as he can this summer.
The Pensioners are in a very precarious position at this moment so they cannot afford to let any of their squad players leave. At the same time, it is a surprise to observe Sarri use Hudson-Odoi so sporadically during this campaign.
Unless the Italian head coach decides to change his stance on the youngster, it will be quite difficult for Chelsea to keep him at the club for the long-run.
The England international has featured in a total of 24 matches for the Pensioners this term, finding the back of the net on six occasions while grabbing six assists across all competitions. He has also enjoyed a rich vein of form for Gareth Southgate’s England side after putting in a brilliant cameo for them in their 5-1 win over Montenegro earlier this month.
The 18-year-old has electrifying pace and is very penetrative dribbler with the ball down the flanks. The English youngster is capable of losing his marker and get to the by-line so that he can deliver some inviting crosses into the opposition penalty area. Hudson-Odoi has also improved his finishing in front of goal during this campaign which is why there is so much interest in his services.
The London born wing wizard came through the youth set-up at Chelsea, so he knows the club well. Sarri needs to decide whether he can offer him more chances in the Premier League next season. If not, then the best solution would be to part ways with the winger during the summer transfer period. Otherwise, Sarri should utilise him to the fullest next season with the hope that he can convince Hudson-Odoi to stay and commit his long-term future to the club.
