Around two weeks back, reports from the Scottish Sun had emerged that Celtic were one of the clubs who were interested in signing Chelsea defender Tomas Kalas. The Czech international is currently on loan with Bristol City and has done an impressive job for the Robins this season. Bristol City themselves were interested in signing him, and the defender was being valued at around £5m.

However, latest reports from Bristol Post suggests that Chelsea won’t look to sell the defender given the transfer embargo they are facing. Therefore the Blues are looking to hold on to all their players for the next two transfer windows at least.

Chelsea have been banned from signing players for the next two transfer windows after being found guilty by FIFA of breaching rules surrounding the signing of minors. This piece of news is not good for clubs chasing to sign players from Chelsea and Celtic have been dealt a blow if Kalas is not made available in the transfer market.

The 25-year-old centre back joined London based outfit, Chelsea, when he was just 16 but has only made four appearances for them. The defender has had seven loan spells, and he still has his contract with the Blues until 2021.

Kalas had once stated about his situation at Chelsea and said, ”I am a player for training sessions. If they need a cone, they put me there instead.”

It is unlikely that he would make a significant impact at Chelsea if he stays on with them and he is likely being kept as a backup option. Celtic, on the other hand, are going to need two centre-halves as the likes of Filip Benkovic and Dedryck Boyata are going to depart from the club.

Kalas could have been a handy option for the Bhoys, and the defender can even double up as a right back when required. That is another one of the areas where Celtic need strengthening. The 25-year-old would have been an ideal option for the Hoops as he is not too inexperienced and is still in the prime of his career.

Kalas is steadfast in his challenges, and he often reads the situation well. Moreover, the defender can carry the ball out from the back, and he would have been a perfect addition at Parkhead. With Chelsea now unwilling to sell the defender, Lennon must look at other possible options in the transfer market to replace his two outgoing defenders.
