Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos might draw criticism for his play acting and attitude while he’s on the pitch, but the fact of the matter is that he is having a tremendous season in terms of numbers. Therefore there is no doubt that he would ignite a lot of interest in the summer from many clubs and quite a few clubs have already been linked with him so far.
Rangers should be open to selling Morelos if the price is right. They would definitely want to make as much money as possible from the deal, and they are probably likely to use some part of that windfall to replace him. Therefore we look at three strikers the Gers should look to target in the summer if they do sell their talismanic forward.
Sardar Azmoun
The Zenit St Petersburg striker is having an impressive season in the Russian division and there is no doubt in our mind that he would bang in goals regularly for Rangers if they managed to sign him. Celtic were linked with him last summer, but nothing materialised at that time.
The Iranian has managed ten goals and five assists in all competitions this season in 23 appearances. His predatory instincts in front of goal would make him an ideal replacement for Morelos. Azmoun even has the ability to create a magic moment out of nothing and he has that x-factor which could make him a favourite at Ibrox.
Joselu
The Spanish forward has struggled for game time at Newcastle United this season as Benitez brought in Salomon Rondon in the summer. The big Venezuelan has put in some massive performances, and there seems to be no way back for Joselu in the first team. Therefore he could be up for grabs in the summer.
The Spaniard has decent finishing skills and has a fair amount of experience of playing in the Bundesliga with the likes of Hoffenheim, Hannover and Frankfurt. In 79 appearances in the Bundesliga, the 28-year-old managed 22 goals and eight assists. All in all, we feel that he would be able to deliver the goods in Scotland.
Andy Carroll
The English forward’s time with West Ham United has been plagued with injuries, but he is currently back in contention for a place in the starting eleven. However, with Marko Arnautovic and Javier Hernandez available, the former Liverpool player has failed to find much game time.
What makes Carroll’s signing lucrative is the fact that his contract is going to expire in the summer. Now it’s true that quite a few English clubs could come after him, but maybe Gerrard can manage to pull one rabbit out of the hat by bringing in his former team-mate to Ibrox.
