Manchester City entertained Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium earlier this afternoon looking to continue their exceptional run of form at home. The Citizens began the match with all guns blazing and took the lead in the 4th minute courtesy of Raheem Sterling’s well-placed finish from close range.
It opened the floodgates for Pep Guardiola’s side as they went on to score five more times during the game through a Sergio Aguero hat-trick and a goal each from Ilkay Gundogan and Sterling.
The match finished with the final scoreline of 6-0 in favour of the Citizens.
Let’s shed some light on how each Man City player performed during the match against the Pensioners.
GK: Ederson – 8/10
The Brazilian keeper pulled off two important saves during the encounter to secure another well-deserved clean sheet at the Etihad Stadium. He was also exceptional with his distribution which will please his manager a lot.
RB: Kyle Walker – 8/10
The English right-back managed to mark Eden Hazard out of the game. He put in a remarkable shift on the right flank and did his defensive duties well to restrict Chelsea from scoring on the day.
CB: John Stones – 8/10
The English defender was always at the right place at the right time as he sensed every danger out with ease and grace. It was another solid performance for him at the heart of the Man City defence.
CB: Aymeric Laporte – 8/10
He distributed the ball quite accurately and put in a commanding shift at the back for the Citizens.
LB: Oleksandr Zinchenko – 7.5/10
He was always willing to stretch the pitch down the left flank and got a handy assist to show for his efforts.
CM: Kevin De Bruyne – 7/10
The Belgian international is slowly coming back to his best. Some of his passing was of the highest quality as he acted as the midfield orchestrator of this Man City team.
CM: Fernandinho – 9/10
The Brazilian veteran helped his side dominate the midfield as he won back possession by making some important interceptions during the contest.
CM: IIkay Gündogan – 8.5/10
The German sensation linked up play well in the opposition half and scored a brilliant goal in the first half. A fine day’s work for him.
RM: Bernardo Silva – 8.5/10
The Portuguese winger worked his socks off as he helped out in defence by doubling up on Hazard. He was also quite useful going forward and was unlucky not to score on the day.
ST: Sergio Agüero – 9.5/10
Another perfect hattrick from the Argentine goal-getter! He scored three decisive goals during his time on the pitch but was guilty of missing a sitter in the first half.
LM: Raheem Sterling – 9/10
His pace caused a whole host of problems for the Chelsea defenders. The English speedster opened the goal-scoring with an emphatic finish in the 4th minute which gave the Citizens an ideal platform to go and secure a dominant win versus the Pensioners. He scored the 6th goal of the contest that goes on to show how ruthless City can be in the final third.
ST: Gabriel Jesus – 5/10
The Brazilian came off the bench but couldn’t manage to get himself a goal.
RM: Riyad Mahrez – 6/10
He showed some signs of promise going forward.
CAM: David Silva – 7/10
The Spanish midfielder set up Sterling with a brilliant pass in the lead to Man City’s sixth goal.
