Manchester City ran riot at the Etihad Stadium and won by a massive margin of 9-0 against Burton Albion in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg. They scored four goals in the first half to put an end to any chance of a shock result being pulled off by the League One side. Gabriel Jesus scored twice while Kevin De Bruyne and Oleksandr Zinchenko notched up one goal apiece to ensure that the tie was put to bed.
The second half too was nothing less than embarrassing for the visitors, as the reigning Carabao Cup champions put the ball in the back of their net five more times. Jesus completed his hat-trick and added a fourth to his tally while Phil Foden, Kyle Walker and Riyad Mahrez notched up one goal apiece to complete the 9 goal routing of the Brewers.
Here is how the Manchester City players were rated in their massive win against Burton Albion.
Arijanet Muric: 7
Had a very quiet time in the goal with all the action happening on the other end of the pitch.
Kyle Walker: 7
Did well to run up and down the pitch with a lot of pace and delivered a few telling crosses. Scored the 8th goal of the match with a brilliant finish. Was taken off in the second half.
Eric Garcia: 7
Kept his side out of harm’s way with hard-hitting tackles to break down the Burton Albion attacks, which were few and far.
Nicolas Otamendi: 7
Partnered Garcia well in the heart of the defence and helped Muric keep a clean sheet.
Oleksandr Zinchenko: 8
Kept getting into good positions with his darting runs into the danger area. Scored a goal in the first half which was meant to be an assist but spectacularly found the net over the head of the Burton goalkeeper.
Kevin De Bruyne: 8
A cool and composed performance from the midfield maestro as he opened the floodgates for the Citizens with a brilliant finish very early in the match.
Ilkay Gundogan: 7
Looked solid in midfield and kept breaking up attacks.
David Silva: 8
Built the attack from the midfield with his accurate passing and kept getting into good positions throughout the match.
Riyad Mahrez: 7
Deceived the opposition on a number of occasions with his classy footwork. Scored a late goal to complete the 9 goal rout.
Leroy Sane: 7
Took a few shots on the Burton goal and put the pressure on the Burton defence from the word go. Got a well-deserved goal in the second half with a clinical finish.
Gabriel Jesus: 9
Superb finishing from the Brazilian as he kept his cool in front of the goal to take the match away from Burton with four goals on the night.
Phil Foden: 7
Kept putting the pressure on the Burton defence since coming on and got his reward with a goal in the second half.
Bernardo Silva: 7
Put in a solid shift as the wide attacker after he was brought on for Sane in the second half.
Did well in his limited time on the pitch.
Special Mention: A minute of silence for the Burton Albion goalkeeper Bradley Collins. You have to feel for this guy, seriously!
