Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke seemed set for a loan move to Crystal Palace, and reports from the Daily Mail suggested that the striker had even completed his medical. However, in spectacular circumstances, the deal is now expected to be scrapped if reports from the Scottish Sun are to go by.
It is believed that Roy Hodgson is unhappy with the fitness level of the player and he feels that the striker would take some time to get back to playing standard.
Solanke has been struggling with muscle issues for quite some time, and he wasn’t available for selection in the festive period of the season. However, Klopp has given the green light to send the striker on loan and maybe after this recent piece of development; Rangers might still have a chance to land the Englishman this month.
Palace have struggled with strike options this season, and they wanted a forward who could instantly start playing in the starting eleven. So one can understand why they are not too keen on the 21-year-old striker anymore. Solanke’s fitness concern isn’t ideal for Rangers as well, but we still believe he can come in handy if he gets back to his best by February. The Bears have the likes of Alfredo Morelos and Kyle Lafferty who can fill in until that time so even now we would say Steven Gerrard should try to bring him to Ibrox.
Brighton, Fulham and Huddersfield are also linked with a move for him, so Rangers still have to fight away competition from other Premier League clubs. But there is definitely a chance now that the Eagles are likely to scrap this deal.
Solanke has everything to his game which a proper no. 9 needs and he is looking for his next big break at the club level. Last season, the former Chelsea forward got his chances at the Merseyside club but wasn’t able to impress much. As a result, he hasn’t played a single game for the Reds this season. The resurgence of Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi played a significant part in pushing him down the pecking order, and the English striker needs to play regularly to take his career to the next level.
Solanke’s claim to fame has been his performances for England at the youth level as he was the Golden Ball winner at the FIFA u-20 World Cup where the Three Lions came out triumphant. Even though he hasn’t settled at a club, he has gone on to represent England at the senior level, and a loan move in January should do his career a world of good. We believe Rangers are definitely in with a fighting chance now that the deal to Selhurst Park has collapsed.
