According to a recent report by Goal.com, Liverpool are set to part ways with their Spanish fullback Alberto Moreno next summer when his current contract at Anfield comes to an end. It is understood that recent talks with the player over a potential new deal have been in vain with Moreno ready to force a move away from Merseyside. Hence it is highly likely that the Spaniard will leave the Reds at the end of this campaign in search of more first-team opportunities someplace else.
Moreno’s Recent Miseries At Anfield
Moreno has hardly started in Jurgen Klopp’s first-team over the past year, and so it shouldn’t be a surprise that the Liverpool outcast is hoping to kickstart his career away from Anfield. The 26-year-old had only featured in one match for the Reds this season when they suffered a bitter 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Chelsea in the Carabao Cup.
The Spanish defensive ace has also been guilty of making some high-profile mistakes during his time at Merseyside which handed Andrew Robertson the initiative to break into Klopp’s first-team and replace him at left-back. Despite showing some glimpses of promise in the opposition half, Moreno is still far from reliable defensively, which is why he now finds himself on the fringes of Jurgen Klopp’s squad.
What Does The Spaniard Offer To The Merseyside Team?
The Spanish left-back has a lot of pace and is a good dribbler with the ball. He can also link up play well down the left flank and can score an occasional goal from a distance if he is confident on the pitch. However, the Reds defender is a big worry in defence and has a terrible habit of making rash decisions in critical moments which could potentially turn the tide of a match.
What Should Be Klopp’s Play Here?
Klopp should look to offload him as soon as possible because Moreno has not shown any signs of improvement over the past few years. He is still a liability in defence and is nowhere close to the level of Andrew Robertson as of this moment.
