Chelsea are in pole position to secure the services of Bayer 04 Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey next summer. According to the German publication Kicker, as reported by the Mirror, the Pensioners have received a massive boost in their pursuit of the 21-year-old speedster after it was revealed that the player favours a move to Stamford Bridge next summer. It is believed that the Jamaican Under-23 international is valued in the region of £55m by Leverkusen after he enjoyed a breakthrough year last season.
The Rise Of Leon Bailey
Bailey made a move to the BayArena from Genk at the start of last year and has been a huge success under Heiko Herrlich’s tutelage. Since his switch to German football, the Jamaican youngster has made 46 appearances for Leverkusen, scoring 13 goals while creating seven assists across all competitions. He managed to put in some scintillating displays for the Bundesliga outfit during last season. He has also begun the current campaign on fire, after finding the back of the net in Leverkusen’s opening home game of the season against VFL Wolfsburg.
What Will The Jamaican Bring To Stamford Bridge?
The former Genk starlet has electrifying pace and primarily operates as a left winger. However, he is equally adept at the playing on the other flank or in the number 10 position, which makes him a highly versatile asset for his side.
The 21-year-old is quite effective with the ball at his feet and has a knack for scoring and creating goals, as evidenced by his impressive record from last season. Although, there are still concerns over whether he can successfully adapt his game to the physicality and high intensity of Premier League football, his speed and technical ability could easily make him a star in European football.
Does Chelsea Need A Player Like Bailey?
Chelsea have the likes of Eden Hazard, Willian, Pedro and Callum Hudson-Odoi in their squad who are the only natural wingers at the club. Maurizio Sarri could use a fresh face in the attacking department and Bailey fits the bill perfectly. The Pensioners could be a superior counter-attacking force if they have Hazard and Bailey running down their flanks. Both players are lightning quick and could cause major headaches for any defence in the top tier of England.
Will The Bundesliga Sensation Be The Perfect Signing For Sarri?
The potential acquisition of the Jamaican wonderkid would significantly improve Sarri’s team and add more competition for places within the squad. Thus, the West London giants should do all they can to sign him next summer as he could prove to be the perfect signing for Sarri shortly.
