According to latest reports, Stoke City have made an enquiry about Leicester City‘s midfielder Daniel Amartey who has found it tough to break into the first team at the King Power Stadium. The Foxes signed him from Copenhagen for a fee worth £5m and the Ghanian was said to be one of the most talented players in the Danish League at that point in time. However, the midfielder has failed to establish himself in England and could be on his way out of the club.

Stoke City are preparing for life in the Championship and they have already lost their talismanic winger Xherdan Shaqiri to Liverpool. The task will be cut out for the new manager Gary Rowett as he looks to build a strong team for the upcoming season. Amartey is traditionally a defensive midfielder but Leicester have often used him in the right-back spot as a backup option for Danny Simpson.

He had made just 8 appearances in the Premier League last season and at 23, the Ghanian international will love to see more first-team action. Staying at Leicester will hamper his overall development as he is unlikely to get a chance in the playing eleven in his preferred position. The team currently has the likes of Vicente Iborra, Wilfred Ndidi, Adrien Silva, Andy King, Matty James, Hamza Choudhury and Papy Mendy who all can play in the defensive midfield role so Amartey is fighting a losing battle here.

The Potters currently have Badou Ndiaye who was signed in the January transfer window and is a candidate to fill in that defensive midfield position. The Senegalese has been linked with a move to Wolves so maybe Gary Rowett is already looking for replacements and Amartey will definitely be a handy addition if he manages to bring him to the Bet 365 Stadium.

Along with the Potters, West Bromwich Albion and Swansea City are also said to be in the race to sign the player so it will be interesting to see which of the relegated clubs will get their man.

The Foxes shouldn’t have any qualms in selling the player given the options they have. The Potters will be aware that they will be one of the favourites to go through to the Premier League straight away and it remains to be seen whether they will be able to handle that kind of pressure. Adding Amartey to the squad will definitely benefit them in achieving their goal.
