It is no secret that Celtic are in the race to sign Hibernian FC’s impressive midfielder John McGinn. The Hoops have been trying to get their hands at signing the Scottish international for quite a while now and the move will be expected to go through as the player has himself indicated that he wants to play under Brendan Rodgers.
The midfielder has become an important player for Neil Lennon in the past few seasons, however, he didn’t play in the Europa League qualifier against NSI Runavik which the Easter Road outfit won 6-1. Lennon claimed that he missed out due to injury but also emphasized on the fact that the 23-year-old wasn’t in the right headspace to start as he had lost focus due to Celtic’s interest in him.
Recently, club captain Scott Brown praised McGinn and said that he will be the perfect contender for a long-term replacement for him as he enters the twilight of his career. He said,”He has already done that with Scotland(Replacing him). When I was John’s age, I was a totally different player to him. I just ran about smashing people. John’s got a lot more than I had at that age. I’ve matured into playing central and sitting in front of the back four more. John’s still got that energy to go from box to box. When he has that, he might as well use it to his full ability.”
Even Brendan Rodgers has admitted that there are talks ongoing regarding the player sale and he has said that patience is key in negotiations.
It just looks like a matter of time now as all the pieces of evidence are pointing towards one thing, that is, McGinn will be a Celtic player soon. Last season at Hibernian, he had made 43 appearances in all competitions and managed 6 goals and 8 assists. The central midfielder has already established himself in the Scottish national team and a move to the Glaswegian powerhouse looks to be on the cards.

The Bhoys’ major rivals Rangers were also said to be interested in the player, however, they are pretty much out of the race to sign him. With the club captain openly coming in and praising McGinn, it seems like he also doesn’t mind having a player of his calibre in the team. The 23-year-old has all the facets to his game which will make him a long-term success at Celtic Park in the midfield region.
