Newcastle United have let their midfielder Jack Colback go on yet another loan spell at Nottingham Forest. Last season as well, the Magpies decided to offload him in the January transfer window to the Championship outfit. Colback was a regular for the Reds in the second half of last season as he made 16 appearances for them.
Colback has been surplus to requirement at Newcastle and the midfielder was left out of club’s official team photo in the 2017-18 season. The 28-year-old has been left miffed by how Rafael Benitez had treated him and their relationship has soured over the past year.
Nottingham Forest have got him on a season-long loan with an option to make a permanent move next season. It is clear that Benitez doesn’t rate him highly and moving away from the club was a step in the right direction from the player. The Foresters will be happy to have his services as the Englishman has plenty of experience of the Premier League and Championship.
Aitor Karanka seems to be impressed with what Colback brings to his side and he had no hesitation in bringing him again on loan. The midfielder happens to be the tenth signing of the summer for Garibaldis as they look to qualify to the top flight.
The Tyneside outfit finished 10th last season and for that, a lot of credit needs to go to Rafael Benitez. If one looks at the roster he had at his disposal, many were of the opinion that the side will be fighting relegation come the end of the season. However, they punched above their weight and went on to survive quite comfortably in the end.
The Magpies have signed South Korean Ki Yong Sung on a free transfer so Colback wasn’t going to have an opportunity to get a chance in the playing eleven. Other options that Benitez has in central midfield are Isaac Hayden, Jonjo Shelvey and Mohamed Diame.

Colback is a left-footed midfielder who is good on the ball and he seems to have ample time when he finds himself in possession. A move to Nottingham will be beneficial as he will be a regular playing member there. For Newcastle, they will be happy that they have gotten him off their payroll and they can invest that money somewhere else. All in all, one can say this loan move is a good move for everyone involved.
