What a rise at fame Harry Maguire has brought upon himself! The Leicester City and England first choice centre-back had a stellar World Cup performance in Russia and has drawn attention from various clubs, most notably Manchester United.
The DailyMail reports that United along with manager Jose Mourinho are keen to have the centre back playing in their ranks, come the start of the new season. The Manchester-based club are willing to empty their pockets by offering £65m for acquiring the services of the 25-year-old defensive rock from Premier League compatriots, Leicester.
The Red Devils will undoubtedly strengthen their squad if Maguire does put pen to paper and sign a deal which would take him to Manchester. The player brings versatility along with him as he can be deployed at right back as well. He uses his height well to win the ball in the air and is a danger from set-pieces if left unmarked.
Maguire won the hearts of all those who support The Three Lions during international games and tournaments as he led the nation from the back and helped England finish a respectable 4th in the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Jose will, however, have to sanction the departure of one of Chris Smalling, Marcos Rojo or Eric Bailly if he is to accommodate a place for Harry Maguire in his team. The mentioned players have drawn interest from potential suitors and could depart from Old Trafford paving the door for Maguire to step in and claim a spot among the United starting 11.
Leicester are looking to increase Maguire’s payroll and is believed to be offering him £75,000/week in order to keep him at the club. The Foxes will be desperate to hold on to the defender after already conceding defeat at keeping winger Riyad Mahrez from the clutches of Premier League champions Manchester City. Barcelona centre-back Yerry Mina and Chelsea defender Gary Cahill are being lined up as potential replacements at the heart of the Foxes defence if Maguire decides that a new challenge is required in his career. The former Hull City defender is capable of walking into the United first-team as of this moment and will bench the likes of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones.
Leicester City have a battle on theirs hand as they fight to keep hold of their star players. Losing Maguire will be a huge blow to the club who worked significantly hard at developing their players into the big name they have become today. However, it will be a shrewd acquisition for Mourinho if he can conjure up such a deal this summer.
