Leeds United have a tough task this summer of trying to improve on a squad that showed lack of consistency last season. Marcelo Bielsa, the new boss at Elland Road, is desperate to add some quality to his first team and has constantly been linked with some exciting stars for a move this summer.
The Whites have several areas in the squad that needs to be strengthened before the start of the transfer window and adding a striker to the side seems to be a priority for Bielsa. This has seen them scout for a couple of star names but one player they are desperate to land is Derby County star Matej Vydra.
The 23-year striker first moved to England and spent time on loan to Watford and only joined Derby County in 2016. He scored just five goals in his first Championship campaign but took his game to the next level last season, registering 21 goals and four assists in just 35 league starts.
He broke into his national side as a teenager and already has 20 international caps for the Czech Republic and is an established star for them. He showed great confidence and skill to create and score consistently last season and that has seen Leeds United show interest in his services, along with a few other clubs.
The current Rams boss Frank Lampard is happy to allow Vydra leave this summer and has slapped a price tag of £11m over his head. It was suggested that Derby already have a replacement lined up for the Czech star and it is now understood that Peterborough United star Jack Marriott, is the man Lampard wants for his side.
Reports this week claim that that the Beverley born striker, who scored 33 goals in all competitions last season, is open to joining Derby County this summer. He was the top goal scorer in League One and is certainly ready for the next step and his move to Pride Park will only help Leeds land Vydra this summer. However, Vydra’s wage demands could be a cause for concern for the Peacocks as the player weighs up his salary expectations.
However, it is understood that Peterborough needs Derby to improve their offer for Marriott, having already knocked back three bids from the Rams. The same story claims that Bielsa may also show interest in Marriott, which will be a huge blow for Lampard and his side.

The Whites are in a decent position at the moment, as they will still be able to land Vydra, at a reasonable price. They can always go back in for Marriott, even late in the transfer window but the Derby County striker should remain their top transfer target this summer.
