Even before the transfer window started, Abel Hernandez was being linked with a move to Leeds United. He became a free agent as his contract with Hull City came to an end and the Whites were said to be one of the prime contenders to sign him. However, as the transfer window progressed, the Uruguayan striker seemed out of bounds as his wage demands were a bit too much for the Whites and United started targeting other players in the transfer market.
Recently, the 27-year-old gave an indication that he is close to a move somewhere. He took to his social media and conveyed to his fans that some good news was coming soon. Maybe he can become a father but that seems unlikely at this point in time and it is expected that the news will be regarding his next destination.
The player had earlier suggested that his priority would have been to stay in England but CSKA Moscow seemed keen on landing him. The move would have been tough to turn down for the player as well as he would have gotten the opportunity to play in the Champions League for the first time.
The signing of Hernandez would have been a good one for the Whites as he has a decent amount of experience in English football and even has the taste of Premier League as well. He missed a good chunk of last season as he was out of action with injury. However, on his return, he showed his class as he managed to score 8 goals in 10 appearances.
Meanwhile, the Whites moved on to other targets and latest developments suggest that they are close to securing a move for Derby County striker Matej Vydra for £11m. The 26-year-old was the last season’s top scorer and the Rams were looking to sell him as the owner indicated that they needed to cut down on cost. The Whites faithful will definitely be happy and satisfied if they pull off this massive coup.

Leeds United fans shouldn’t expect much news regarding Hernandez as they have been out of the race to sign him for quite a while now. The likelier destination of the Uruguayan seems to be CSKA Moscow. Hernandez would have been the cheaper option as the Whites could have gotten him for free but they wouldn’t be complaining if they can land Vydra in place of him.
