Arsenal Hoping To Land 29 Y/O Croatian World Cup Star: What Will He Add To Emery’s Side?

Arsenal have made an approach to secure the signature of Besiktas centre-back Domagoj Vida this summer. According to recent reports, the Croatian international is on the Gunners’ radar as they look to seal a move for him during this summer transfer period. It is believed that the new Arsenal boss Unai Emery is looking to strengthen his squad before the transfer window slams shut next month and is eyeing a move for the Croatian centre-back in the coming weeks.

Some sources have recently claimed that Arsenal are in the mix to seal a move for Vida this summer. However, they are not the only ones looking to land him and will face stiff competition from West Ham United in pursuit of the Croatian’s signature.

The 29-year-old defender had an outstanding 2018 FIFA World Cup and put in a number of solid displays for his nation on their way to the final of the competition. However, the Croatian national team fell in the final hurdle as they lost 4-2 against France but they were able to win over a lot of hearts with their performance and effort.

Vida is exactly the kind of defender who can thrive under the leadership of Emery if given the opportunity to showcase his talents at the Emirates Stadium.

The London outfit had a disjointed season last term under Arsene Wenger when they only managed to finish in the 6th spot of the English top tier standings. Emery needs to stamp his authority and bring in some more quality if he wants to build a strong enough squad capable of challenging on all fronts in the next campaign.

The potential acquisition of Vida will undoubtedly bolster their defensive options at the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners have a whole host of big-name defenders such as Laurent Koscielny, Konstantinos Mavropanos, Shkodran Mustafi and Callum Chambers competing for a place in Emery’s starting XI. The potential acquisition of Vida will add more competition for places within the Gunners squad and improve their team significantly going into the new season.

At 29, the Croatian defender still has a few years left in him to play at a high level which the North London giants could look to benefit from, over the next few years. The Besiktas centre-back is also highly experienced at the top level which makes him a perfect fit for Emery’s Arsenal. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Vida and whether he ends up playing for the Gunners next season.
