As reported by The Evening Standard, Serie A sleeping giants AC Milan have stepped up their pursuit of bringing Gonzalo Higuain to the San Siro. The Argentine continues to be heavily linked with a move to Chelsea, as new manager Maurizio Sarri looks to strengthen his attacking options before the start of the upcoming Premier League season.
The Italian is keen for the Chelsea board to wrap up the arrival of Higuain to West London. A deal worth £57m is on the cards as the Blues strategically assess their options for the benefit of the squad. However, Chelsea are unsure about the prospect of signing the Juventus star as the player is 30 years of age and goes against the club’s policies of offering long-term contracts to senior players. Higuain is also expected to demand wages amounting to £130,000-a-week.
Here are three alternative options that Sarri can go after if Chelsea fails to strike a deal for Higuain.
Mauro Icardi
Sarri is believed to be an admirer of Icardi and would do well to convince the Chelsea hierarchy to splash the cash for the striker. At the age of 25, Icardi is already wearing the armband at Inter Milan which shows that the Argentine has leadership qualities within him. It will be key for Chelsea to have someone leading the line and can rally his troops in times of discomfort. He is strong on the ball and would suit the Chelsea system perfectly. He is also good in the air and can shoot for goal from distance.
Sergio Aguero
With Gabriel Jesus made to lead the line at Manchester City, Aguero’s time at the Etihad Stadium might be drawing to a close. He is very familiar to the Premier League and knows what it takes to succeed. Hence, the Argentine would be a great addition to have on the Chelsea team. Aguero is a fighter and bringing his fighting spirit with him will do the squad a world of good. Despite his stature, he is physical on the ball and is a nuisance for opposition defenders to shrug off. He is continuously moving into dangerous positions which make him a handful to contain when marking him.

Tammy Abraham
The Blues have an excellent youth academy ruling in their favour. They, however, forget to inaugurate their young stars into the first team and send them on loan instead. Abraham has had two successful loan spells away from his boyhood club and Chelsea would be wise to give the young prospect a chance in the team. The club is under a period of transition and should use this opportunity to give their young stars a run of game time. Abraham is quick on his feet despite his height and is strong in the air as well.
