West Ham United are looking for a new beginning under Manuel Pellegrini and he is already planning on bringing in some top talents. They are being linked with a move for highly talented Argentinian midfielder Javier Pastore. Pastore has fallen down in the pecking order at Paris Saint Germain in the last few years and has started in just 16 games in Ligue 1.
The reports suggest that West Ham and PSG are already in negotiations regarding the sale of the player and it is highly likely that Pastore will have to take a pay cut from his current salary which he is earning in France. He reportedly earns £160,000 a week and one cannot see the Hammers paying him that much to secure his services.
Pastore moved to PSG from Palermo after impressing with the Italian outfit. He was signed for £37m in 2011. His contract is set to come to an end in 2019 and PSG wants to cash on him by selling him before his contract runs out. The attacking midfielder made 37 appearances in all competitions as he managed five goals and provided six assists.
On the back of sporadic appearances, he didn’t manage to make the cut for Argentina’s squad for the World Cup. The 28-year-old would have been left disappointed as once he was a regular member of the Argentinian national squad.
West Ham will be in need of creative players as they have been found wanting in front of goal. The likes of Michail Antonio and Manuel Lanzini have been injury prone and the Hammers were heavily dependent on Marko Arnautovic to provide the spark up front. Pastore will certainly share the burden if he comes in as he is technically good on the ball and has an eye for a defence-splitting pass. We have seen Arnautovic play in a false nine role and with Pastore coming in, we might see the Argentinian starting behind the Austrian in a number 10 role.

The Hammers were in a relegation battle earlier in the previous campaign and they will be hoping that their new manager will be able to guide them towards greater heights. Pastore is a proven player with a wealth of experience and he will certainly bring that cutting edge in the final third of the pitch. However, we have often seen players from other leagues find it tough to get going in the English top division. It remains to be seen whether that will be the case with Pastore but on paper, this seems like a good signing for the East London club.
