Hull City forward Abel Hernandez has left the club as he put an end to his four-year stay at the KCOM Stadium. According to a recent post released on the player’s Twitter page, the Uruguayan has decided to depart the Tigers this summer as he seeks for a new challenge somewhere else.
The 27-year-old expressed his gratitude to the Hull supporters and revealed that ‘a fair agreement’ could not be reached which has led to his departure. His current contract with Hull City will run out at the end of next month which will make him a free agent.

The Uruguayan international was plagued with injuries last season which saw him feature in just 10 league matches for the Tigers. He managed to score 8 league goals while grabbing 2 assists during that time which shows how clinical he can be. Hernandez has also earned 29 international caps for the Uruguayan national team and has 11 international goals to his name so far in his career. He could prove to be a clever addition to Rodgers’ squad if the Hoops decided to reignite their interest for the player.
The Bhoys managed to obtain a domestic treble last season but their performance in European competitions left a lot to be desired. The Glaswegian side needs to bring in some talented players during this transfer period if they are to maintain their superiority in domestic competitions.
The addition of Hernandez will undoubtedly bolster Rodgers’ attacking options at Celtic Park. The Hoops has the likes of Moussa Dembélé, Leigh Griffiths and Michael Johnston competing for a starting berth in Rodgers’ first XI. The potential acquisition of Hernandez will definitely improve their team significantly and add more competition for places within the Celtic squad.
At 27, the Uruguayan international still has a few years left in him to play at a high level which the Bhoys could look to utilise over the next few years. However, there is also a growing concern about whether he can cope with his recent injury worries and feature regularly for a whole season. Only time will what lies ahead in the future of Hernandez and whether he ends up making a switch to Celtic Park in the coming months.
