Manchester United are inching closer towards sealing a move for FC Porto left-back Diogo Dalot this summer. According to recent reports, the Red Devils are planning to secure the services of the Portuguese defender in the coming days. It is believed that the 19-year-old will have his medical with United this week ahead before finalising his switch from Porto.
Dalot has put in a number of outstanding performances for the Portuguese giants during the course of last season which has not gone unnoticed by other clubs. Some sources have recently claimed that the Portuguese starlet is on the verge of completing his transfer to Old Trafford and recent developments suggest that he will seal a move to the Manchester outfit in the new few days. The Porto star has a release clause of £17.4m in his current contract with his parent club which the Reds of Manchester have decided to pay in order to secure his signature.
United boss Jose Mourinho could be on the lookout for a long-term replacement for Antonio Valencia and Dalot fits the bill perfectly. There is no doubt about Dalot’s immense potential which he could look to fulfil under the stewardship of Mourinho at Old Trafford.
The Mancunian team were unable to win any silverware last season so the Special One will need to recruit some promising young players in this ongoing window to help his side bridge the gap to their ‘noisy neighbours’ Manchester City and challenge on all fronts next term.
The potential acquisition of Dalot will undoubtedly bolster Mourinho’s defensive options at Old Trafford. The Red Devils have talented players such as Matteo Darmian, Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young and Daley Blind vying for a right-back berth in their first-team. The addition of Dalot will definitely improve their team in the future and add more competition for places within Mourinho’s squad.

The Braga-born teenager had made 7 appearances for the Porto senior team last season and has two assists to his name in all competitions. At the mere age of 19, Dalot has a lot of potential and could flourish in English football if given the opportunity to showcase his talents regularly in Mourinho’s starting XI over the next few seasons. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Dalot and whether his move to Manchester turns out to be a success.
