Liverpool have held talks with AS Roma over the potential transfer of their Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker in the summer. According to recent reports, the Reds have inquired about the Roma goalkeeper’s availability in this transfer period and it is believed that things have taken a positive turn in their pursuit of the player.
It is no secret that the Merseyside club are interested in securing the signature of the Brazilian goalie this summer and some sources have recently claimed that Jurgen Klopp’s side met with Alisson’s representatives ahead of Brazil’s 2-0 victory in a friendly match against Croatia at Anfield. It has also been suggested that the 25-year-old is pushing for a switch away from Rome with the Italian club demanding a fee in the region of €70m for their prized asset.
Alisson has put in some brilliant displays for Roma during the course of last season which has not gone unnoticed by other clubs. It is understood that the Brazilian wants to have a clear idea about his future before his participation in the 2018 FIFA World Cup which kicks off in Russia later this month.
The Reds of Merseyside finished 4th in the league last season which means that they will be playing Champions League football next term. Jurgen Klopp needs to recruit wisely in this current transfer period and bring in some top-class players so that his side can mount a realistic title challenge in the upcoming campaign.
The potential signing of Alisson would go a long way in helping them close the gap to Manchester City in the coming years. The five-time European champions are in dire need of a world-class shot-stopper if they are to challenge for major trophies next season and in Alisson, that’s what they will be getting.
The Reds backline has been leaky, to say the least, during the course of the last campaign. The Merseyside club’s goalkeeping duo of Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius have both failed to live up to the high expectations of playing for a big club like Liverpool.
Hence, the acquisition of Alisson will definitely improve their team and add more competition for places within Klopp’s squad. The Brazilian has a wealth of experience and knows what it takes to perform at a high-level week in week out. It remains what lies ahead in the future of the Brazilian international and whether he ends up making a switch to Anfield in the coming months.
