In just over a couple of years, Jurgen Klopp has turned the Liverpool side into one of the strongest in European football at the moment. They have their weaknesses but are a side that not many would want to face next season. But the German tactician is looking to improve on an already impressive squad and the latest name on his radar is Alex Telles.
Having started his senior career with Juventude, the 25-year old spent time at Gremio, Galatasaray and Inter Milan, before he moved to Portugal with FC Porto in 2016. He took no time to establish himself in the first team, making 32 league appearances on his debut and has now only grown in stature after his performances last season.
In 42 starts in all competitions, the left-back registered four goals and 14 assists, standing as one of the most productive players in his role in Europe. He is widely regarded as one of the most gifted players at Porto at the moment and is already attracting interests from all around Europe.
Chelsea and PSG are also linked with a move for Telles but Liverpool have reportedly scouted him since January and are ready to make a move for him this summer. He has a release clause of £35m in his current contract, so should Liverpool meet his valuation?
Known for his crossing and chance creation in the final third, Telles is an attacking minded full-back with decent discipline. He is strong and creative on the ball but is equally adept at soaking up pressure at the back, winning most of what is thrown at him in the air. He refuses to be bullied by even the best wingers and attackers and is rarely prone to errors, keeping his side usually away from danger.
His style of play is perfect for the Premier League and though he has no experience in England before, has already shown that he can be effective in different systems. Klopp wants Telles as a replacement for Alberto Moreno, who recently lost his first-team spot at Anfield to the exciting Andrew Robertson.

The Scottish international as one of the best left-backs last season in England but Telles will push him for a place in the first team and will solve Liverpool’s left-back problems for years to come.
However, signing Telles will mean that Liverpool need to find suitors for Moreno and unless they sell the Spaniard, signing the Porto star makes very little sense for the Reds. He is an upgrade on the former Sevilla star and will certainly improve the quality of the squad at Anfield. But do you think, at his price, he is a necessity for Liverpool at the moment?
