Tottenham Hotspur have the knack of introducing the English top flight to unknown stars and are looking to something similar this summer as well. Mauricio Pochettino has given the foundation of a prolific career to a number of youngsters in his time in London and is now looking at another such star from France.
According to the latest reports from French news outfit L’Équipe, Spurs are now considering a move for young Tanguy N’Dombele this summer. Reports suggest that the English outfit is ready to shell up to €40m for his services but French outfit Lyon, his new parent club, are holding out for a fee closer to €60m. so is Ndombele and is he worth the fuss?
Born and brought up in Longjumeau, the 21-year old started his senior career with Amiens, making his first senior appearance for the club in 2016. He spent an impressive season at Stade de la Licome, making 33 league appearances, which saw him earn a move to Lyon, initially on a loan.
He made an immediate impact for Les Gones, making a total of 28 Ligue 1 starts, picking up six assists for his side. He played a total of 50 games in all competitions and showed that he is ready for top-flight football in Europe, earning himself a permanent move to Groupama Stadium.
A central midfielder by trait, N’Dombele is a workhorse in the middle of the park, who loves to dictate the game. With great technique and close control, the youngster is a decent dribbler but what makes him dangerous is his ability to win the ball back in dangerous areas, to use it in counter-attacks.
His twists and turns in dangerous areas, drawing a lot of fouls while his vision allows him to create chances consistently. He is still a raw talent and has very few weaknesses in his game and is a gem of a find from Pochettino.
The Argentine’s last few signings to improve his first team have not made any real impact. Young Davinson Sanchez has impressed in a defensive role but neither Lucas Moura nor Fernando Llorente has shown any real promise, leaving Spurs in search of another attacker.

They might be tempted to spend on more established stars and proven winners to take the next step but the manager is happy to work with potential stars and seems convinced that N’Dombele is the right man for his side.
He may be a tad expensive at €60m but is definitely a risk worth taking.
