Marco Silva has succeeded Sam Allardyce to the managerial throne at Everton and is already setting up potential moves for the summer transfer window. The first thing on the to-do list is to sort out Wayne Rooney’s situation.
The veteran forward had already agreed upon a move to Major League Side, DC United after just one season back with the Toffees but is currently holding out on a word with the new man in charge.
Silva also will have to address some of the most obvious leaks in the squad ranks. Farhad Moshiri has already agreed to match his previous summer investments to help push the team towards Champions League football.
It is almost ludicrous to think the kind of players Silva can sign with that sort of financial backing but here are a few players who should be topping his wishlist this summer.
Joe Bryan
Everton are in dire need of a left-back and should definitely consider the Bristol City man. Ever since Leighton Baines went down to an injury last season, Allardyce was forced to field Rhu-Endly Cuco Martina in the position. With a lack of dominant left foot, the 28-year-old looked less than comfortable.
While Baines did return to first-team action late into the 2017/18 campaign, there were definite question marks over his abilities to matchup against Premier League wingers. At 33, the Englishman is facing the final stages of his playing career and needs a backup option to help him out through the roughs of a 38-game season.
Bryan has appeared in 229 games for the Robins and is currently one of the best fullbacks in the Championship. With him entering the final year of his contract, Bristol could agree to a switch if their asking price is matched.
James Maddison
Earlier reports claimed that the Toffees were leading the race for the 21-year-old’s signature with plenty of other Premier League outfits also interested. Maddison plies his trade for Norwich City and is a magician from the attacking midfield position.
He was nominated for the 2017/18 EFL Championship Player Of The Season and was also named in the Championship Team Of The Season. With Rooney gone and Gylfi Sigurdsson putting in mediocre shifts in his debut season, Everton need a creative head who will be able to drive the team’s offence.
Malcom
There is very limited potential with just players like Yannick Bolasie and Nikola Vlasic taking up the wing positions. Everton needs that marquee attacker who can wreak havoc from the wide positions with the ball under his feet.
