Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing Lazio’s star midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. The 23-year-old midfielder has been reportedly tracked down by Tottenham’s scouts and the Spurs board will be lining up a move for the Lazio star.
Milinkovic-Savic has been scouted by several clubs across the top leagues in Europe owing to his outstanding performances in the Serie A. He has been in dazzling form and has perfected the role of a modern number 8 in the Lazio shirt.
It is believed that Tottenham are interested in scooping up Milinkovic-Savic and Ciro Immobile, the 41-goal striker, from Lazio for a reported fee of £100million plus. Tottenham have a young side with exceptional talents all over the pitch.
However, it is believed that their manager Mauricio Pochettino and boss Daniel Levy has been reinvesting their thoughts in changing and chopping the squad. They are keen to keep the core group of players but are ready to move on the fringe footballers.
This would mean that talented players like Toby Alderweireld, Danny Rose, Victor Wanyama, Moussa Sissoko and Mousa Dembele could be on their way out of the club. The exit of these players should bring in considerable funds for Tottenham with which they can launch a bid for the Lazio stars.
If Dembele, who is north of 30, is to make his way out along with Victor Wanyama, that would leave Spurs in a spot of bother and a little too thin on their squad roster for Pochettino’s liking. Hence, bringing in a younger, able and possibly better replacement in Milinkovic-Savic would make great sense for Spurs.
The midfielder has made 44 appearances for Lazio this season scoring 12 goals and creating 8 more from midfield. This means that he has been able to get into the game enough to create chances for his team. Moreover, his contribution has been far more than what has been shown on the stats. He is typical box-to-box player who can tackle, pass, both short and long and shoot and cross.
