A lucky escape or a typical Madrid performance? Whatever you want to call it, the end result remains that Real Madrid are through to their third straight UEFA Champions League final after drawing 2-2 against Bayern Munich on the night. Here are the player ratings from their hard-earned win over two legs of entertaining football.

Keylor Navas 9

The absolute star on the night. His heroics tonight kept Madrid in the game. Somehow made a world-class save to deny Alaba, a decent save from Thomas Muller and pulled another rabbit out of the with a great save to deny Robert Lewandowski.

Lucas Vazquez 5

Frank Ribery did what was expected of him. He took full advantage of the situation and took Vazquez to the cleaners. The player was exposed badly and Madrid will be hoping Carvajal returns soon.

Raphael Varane 6

Something is wrong with the Varane of this season. Seems to have forgotten the basics of defending and makes too many committal errors for a defender of his class. Has to be better drilled in practice by Zidane.

Sergio Ramos 6

The best Madrid defender on the night. He did make a mistake for the first goal but was still the only on throughout the match who kept tackling and intercepting Bayern attacks.

Marcelo 6.5

Lucky to have escaped punishment for a penalty in the first half. A telling far post cross to set up Benzema for the first goal, typical of the Brazilian.

Mateo Kovacic 5.5

A surprise inclusion in the team. He was given Casemiro’s job and the midfielder let Zidane down. He was decent in patches but committed too many errors without the ball.

Toni Kroos 5

Not the best game to judge Kroos by as he could not come to terms with the end to end action.

Luka Modric 7

Did brilliantly to double back for Vazquez who was cleaned up by Ribery and Alaba. Extremely simple approach on the ball and fed his forwards some timely passes.

Marco Asensio 6

Again lacking the end product despite putting in some high profile dribbles and passes in the middle.

Karim Benzema 9

What a night from the Frenchman. Made up for his mistakes throughout the season by delivering at the time of need. A double from Benzema saved Madrid on the night.

Cristiano Ronaldo 5.5

Strange to see him being a ghost in the game. Was missing from the thick of the action.

Gareth Bale 5

Replaced Benzema and did not do much. Missed a chance while put through on goal.

Casemiro 6 .5

Tactical change from Zidane to win the night and Casemiro obliged just as much.
