Liverpool are plotting a move for Zorya Luhansk goalkeeper Andriy Lunin next summer. According to recent reports, the Reds are currently leading the chase to sign the Ukranian shot-stopper when the summer transfer window opens at the end of the season. The 19-year-old is currently plying his trade at Zorya Luhansk in the Ukranian top-flight, where he has put in a number of solid displays at the back during the course of this season.
Lunin has earned a lot of positive reviews after leaving Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk last year. He managed to break into the Zorya Luhansk first-team earlier in this campaign and has since put in some eye-catching performances in goal for the Ukranian side which has caught the attention of Liverpool, Leicester City and Watford. Some sources are now claiming that the Reds are hoping to secure Lunin’s signature in the summer transfer period as they reckon that he would be an ideal No.3 keeper at Anfield.
Lunin has made 34 appearances for the Ukranian side this season, conceding 51 goals while keeping 10 clean sheets in all competitions. At the mere age of 19, the young keeper has a lot of potential and could be a future starter for the Merseyside club in the coming years. The Luhansk starlet has also earned an international cap for the Ukranian national team recently when he started in goal against Saudi Arabia after featuring in just 3 matches for his country’s Under-21 side.
The Reds of Merseyside are currently lying in the 3rd position in the Premier League table with a tally of 72 points after Gameweek 37. Jurgen Klopp’s side now requires a victory against Brighton & Hove Albion if they want to ensure Champions League football for the next campaign.
The addition of Lunin will undoubtedly bolster Jurgen Klopp’s goalkeeping options at the club ahead of the new season. Liverpool have the likes of Loris Karius, Simon Mignolet and Danny Ward competing for a place in Klopp’s starting eleven. However, none of them has managed to put in a run of consistent performances in the Reds goal which means that the arrival of a new keeper will be welcomed with open arms. The potential signing of Lunin will definitely add more competition for places within the Reds team and improve their overall squad depth.
