Leeds United are looking to sign the soon-to-be free agent, Abel Hernandez to beef up their attack for the 2018/19 season. The 27-year-old has not agreed to any extension with Hull City over the course of the year and is free to enter negotiations with interested outfits.

The Whites army are desperate for a scoring presence like Hernandez after losing the services of Pierre-Michel Lasogga earlier this month. The German returned to his parent club Hamburg SV after the completion of his season-long loan spell at Elland Road.

His presence in the offence looked to be the only bright in the gloomy season which initiated United’s horrific losing run in the second half of the campaign. Leeds finished the 2017/18 season in the 13th spot of the EFL Championship, much to the dismay of their fans who had earlier been hopeful of seeing their club make a run for promotion.

The team was in the playoff spots all the way till December before their progression meter took a major detour. Both Thomas Christiansen and Paul Heckingbottom failed to uplift the team’s morale or their competitiveness to stop the dramatic downfall.

The latter is expected to deliver the goods big time as Andrea Radrizzani looks to make an improved run in the upcoming season. Signing a player of Hernandez’s pedigree will certainly help them pursue those goals better.

The 27-year-old is a proven talent in the English game, as evident from his 8-goal tally from an astonishing 10 games this season. An injury to the Achilles robbed him of playing time for the majority of the campaign but the Uruguayan still came back to make a major difference for the Tigers. Nigel Adkins would have liked to keep him but unfortunately, his contract demands could not be met by the KCOM-based outfit.

Hernandez has been capped 27 times for the Uruguay national team. Edinson Cavani and Luis Suarez are closely followed by the Pando-born forward for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. He can beat defenders on the dribble and take them on with his physical stature.

The striker knows a thing or two about where goals come from and has already played in the Premier League. He has 122 caps for Serie A outfit, Palermo and is currently one of the most prolific number nines in the English second division.

Getting him for free is nothing but a miracle for Leeds, who can also offer him a lucrative deal now that Lasogga is gone and Pawel Cibicki is also expected to quit the side.
