Leeds United are reportedly interested in signing Birmingham City goalkeeper David Stockdale. The 32-year-old has made 39 appearances for the Blues this season and has been the first choice keeper at the back. His performances in goal helped Birmingham seal promotion back to the Sky Bet Championship.
The keeper was brought in on a free transfer from Brighton and Hove and has been a good signing by the club. He has another two years left on his contract but it seems that Leeds may intervene and bring in Stockdale to Elland Road.
The signing of Stockdale would serve Leeds United well on multiple fronts. First up, it would directly weaken another team in the Championship thereby helping Leeds’ cause (just kidding with this one). The actual reason would be that he would solve the issue of who will be the number one at Leeds.
“It would mean everything to me and that’s my plan,” is what Bailey Peacock-Farrell had said when he upstaged German goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald in goal. He had just been given the number one status at the club owing to the German’s faulty performances in goal.
He had further added that he wants to continue and improve with a vote of confidence from Paul Heckingbottom. “I would like to be here. It’s about not getting carried away so far. It was only my second game but eventually that’s where I would like to be and hopefully, I can get there.”
When quizzed about the competition between the goalkeepers, Peacock-Farrell had a very professional answer. “Obviously I would like to play the rest of the games, Felix would like to play the rest of the games, Lonners will be back and he would like to play the rest of the games. We all want to play but it’s the manager’s call.”
It now seems that his professional attitude will be put to test. While the poor form of Wiedwald and Andy Lonergan gave him the first tag in goal, the situation might change should Stockdale be signed from Birmingham.

The 32-year-old is vastly experienced and it might see him push out Peacock-Farrell once again on to the bench. Things will certainly heat up at Elland road should the transfer go through but they must also think of selling one goalkeeper for it makes little sense to have four options for one place in the team.
