Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has indicated that Marouane Fellaini could remain at Old Trafford beyond this summer. According to recent reports, the Red Devils midfielder could extend his stay at Manchester amidst speculation linking him with a move abroad. The Special One has revealed that there is a real chance that the Belgian international will pen a new deal and commit his long-term future to the club.
Fellaini scored the winning goal in United’s last-ditch 2-1 victory against Arsenal last weekend which booked his side’s place in the UEFA Champions League next season. However, he has found life tough under Jose Mourinho and has been a sporadic feature for the Red Devils this season. The Belgian has been plagued with injuries in recent times which has not helped his cause.
His current contract with United is set to run out at the end of this campaign. Following Fellaini’s injury-time winner on Sunday, Mourinho addressed his situation at the club and was quoted to have said, “I think a player that grabs the crest after scoring is telling clearly that he wants to stay,”
“I want him to stay, the club wants him to stay. I think he will stay, it is nearly there.”
“I believe he will stay. He’s a good player and he can be used in many different circumstances, according to the nature of the game.
“That’s why we want him to stay and that’s why I believe that he is going to stay.
“The position is we are almost there. But, in football, almost is not enough. I think we are almost there but I can’t celebrate because almost is not enough.
“I want to see the white paper with the United crest and Mr Ed Woodward’s signature and Maraoune’s signature on it.”
Fellaini has made 22 appearances for the Red Devils this season, scoring 5 goals while grabbing one assist in all competitions. At 30, the Belgian midfielder still has a lot to offer which Mourinho could look to utilise at United beyond this summer. The Reds of Manchester are in the second spot of the league rankings with a total tally of 77 points in 35 league fixtures.

Retaining some of their top talents could go a long way in helping them close the gap to their nearest rivals, Manchester City in the coming years as they look to mount a realistic title challenge in the next campaign. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Fellaini and whether he ends up extending his stay at Old Trafford in the near future.
