Fulham seems to have decided that they are going to fight tooth and nail to keep their young prodigy Ryan Sessegnon at Craven Cottage. The 17-year-old Fulham left midfielder has lit up the Championship this term with his fantastic performances and according to reports, the Cottagers have slapped a £100m price tag for their main man.
After a performance like that Sessegnon was bound to be linked with top clubs of the Premier League clubs and the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are vying to bring him at their club. The young star recently became the Championship’s player of the season and was nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year, the first instance when a player from the second division has been nominated along with top-flight talents.
Sessegnon has helped Fulham to qualify for the playoffs. However, they could have made a direct entry to top flight if they would have won their last game of the season against Birmingham City. Their second-placed rivals Cardiff City were just one point ahead of them and they drew against Reading in the final encounter which was enough to send them through. Fulham’s promotion currently hangs in the balance as they lost to Derby County 1-0 in the first leg of the playoffs. They will be hoping for an inspired performance from their defender turned winger in the second leg to push for a place in the finals at Wembley.
At just 17, he has already gone on to represent England u-21 and he certainly isn’t too far from a senior team call-up. He has managed 15 goals in the Championship this season and is destined to turn out for a top club in the future.
It will be interesting to see whether Fulham will be able to keep hold of their prized asset if they fail to get promoted this season. The boy will certainly have dreams of playing in the English top flight and if a big club comes calling with an offer on the table, his head might turn.

If Fulham fails to move to the English top flight the player might feel that the price tag on him is too ridiculous as it will discourage the big clubs from paying the quoted amount for an untested player in the Premier League. Fulham needs to realise that they won’t be able to keep hold of their man forever especially if they keep playing in the Championship. £100m is certainly going to put off a lot of clubs but that might end up frustrating the player if he wants to move to a big club in the top flight resulting in a position of unrest between the club and the player.
