Chelsea had a brilliant season last time out and ended up becoming the Premier League champions for the 2016-17 campaign. Antonio Conte’s men took the league by storm and won 13 games in a row as Chelsea went on to become the league champions with a record number of wins for the club.

Instrumental to their win was their number nine Diego Costa. The Brazil-born Spanish striker played in Spain before moving to Chelsea back in 2014-15. A temperamental striker by nature, he was the kingpin in Chelsea’s race to the top but the player had quite a number of run-ins with Chelsea’s Italian boss Antonio Conte.

The resultant rift with the player saw Conte chop him off the squad and Costa was shipped back to Spain. As a replacement for him, Chelsea brought in his national team deputy Alvaro Morata. The former Galactico and Juventus star was brought by the club for a record fee and had a brilliant start to life at Chelsea.

However, things have become difficult since and Morata has now been linked with a move back to Juventus. Conte for his part is, however, not ready to accept such reports and believes that the Blues will have Morata on their roster for quite some time.

“Morata is Chelsea’s player, he must be ready to play tomorrow and next season. I think the situation is very clear.

“I think this season was a difficult season, but not only for Morata. Your focus is only Morata, but I would like if your focus was on the whole team and not only one player.”

The Morata situation has been complicated with the signing of Olivier Giroud who has replaced him as the first team striker and won the confidence of Conte. “He [Giroud] has been a good signing for us. We are talking about a player with great experience, an international player. He played many leagues in this country and a good signing for us.

”Now he is a good fit and he played a really good game against Liverpool not only for the goal but also because he worked very hard for the team with the ball and without the ball. We must be pleased for this signing.”

It now remains to be seen if Morata does believe in Conte’s plans for him for the future or if he does seek a move away when the transfer window opens next month.
