Chelsea are reportedly ready to sack their Italian manager Antonio Conte in the next 48 hours. Reports believe that the Blues hierarchy will replace the former Juventus boss with Luis Enrique. Enrique has been out of work since he parted ways with Barcelona after the end of last season. As for Conte’s departure, the Italian has left the ball in Chelsea’s court but appears to have taken a clear shot at the Blues hierarchy before handing in the reins. This is what he said in what will perhaps be his last Chelsea press conference before the sack.

“Sometimes you do not always have the same ambition. Last season after we won the League, I and the club spoke, we tried to find the right way to try to defend our title. I decided to stay and work hard.”

“When you decide to take on a coach like me, you must know who you are taking on, who you are charging for this job. I cannot change my personality, my idea of football. I am a serial winner.”

“The way we played on Saturday was the only way to lift a trophy the way we are now. If you want to change, you must change many players. I don’t think winning the FA Cup changes anything about my future. A win or a loss cannot change that.”

“It’s right for the club to take the best decision. The win on Saturday cannot change an assessment of my work. We could have played better at Wembley but the situation is we have to play strong defensively if we want to win a trophy.”

“The club has the right experience to understand the moment now and what the club has to do in the future, to be competitive and to fight for a place in the Champions League.”

Chelsea, it seems, has decided to bring in Enrique in his place. The former Barcelona boss was credited with harnessing the radical energy of the famous “MSN” trident at Nou Camp. He gave Barcelona both domestic and European glory in his short spell at the club.

Should Enrique come to Chelsea, it will definitely be another big profile manager to take over the reins at Stamford Bridge. However, with no UEFA Champions League football on offer, he will find it tough to convince players to join the club. Moreover, Chelsea will also have to pay a hefty compensation to Conte if he parts ways with the club.

Maybe Chelsea should just stick with Conte for another season instead and allow the Italian to bring in a few players of his choice and see how the season turns out instead of chopping and changing whoever and whenever they want.
