Latest reports on social media and Bayern Munich’s official website has confirmed that Franck Ribery has extended his contract at the club by another season. The veteran winger was out of contract at the end of the season and was set to become a free agent.
With speculation revolving around his future, there were many questions about his next destination. It was all put to an end today as Ribery signed a one-year extension on his deal. He is now pledged to the club till 2019.
Sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic was ecstatic with the player’s signing of the deal and this is what he said. “We’re very pleased that Franck is staying with us. This season Franck has proven once again in the Bundesliga as well as in the Champions League and the DFB-Pokal the outstanding achievements he is capable of and what great quality he has. He is also one of our crowd pleasers.”
As for the Frenchman himself, Ribery added: “I’m very happy that I’ll get to play for this great club for another year. Munich has long since become home for me and my family and I’m therefore very proud that I’ll be able to wear the FC Bayern shirt again next season.”
Ribery joined the club back in 2007 from French side Marseille. He was an exciting 23-year-old winger back then and Bayern took on the gamble of bringing him to Germany. He has proved to be an instrumental player at the club spending 11 seasons at the club which will now extend to 12.
In his time at Bayern, he has won every major trophy in domestic as well as European competitions and has been one of the best players in the club over the last decade. The player is now 35 years old and is coming to the dusk of his career.
He has also been going through a lot of injuries lately that saw him lose his starting spot in the team. It has been a disruptive few years but the Frenchman has been back to his best this season and has made 32 appearances for the club scoring six goals and creating six more.
