Arsenal suffered a major heartbreak this week in the semi-finals of the Europa League this season. Playing a two-legged tie against Atletico Madrid, they wasted and spurned infinite chances in the first leg to lock down the tie. Instead, they went into the second leg tied 1-1 on aggregate. As it turned out in Madrid, Diego Simeone’s men won the match 1-0 thanks to a Diego Costa goal.
The defeat meant that Arsenal are now out of the running to win the Europa League and Arsene Wenger’s last chance to win a European trophy with the Gunners is now gone. The Frenchman is set to leave the club at the end of the season and football fans across the world were hoping to see the legend go out on a high.
Instead, now Arsenal will have to shift their focus to the league where they will be hoping to secure the sixth spot against Burnley this weekend. The Gunners have collected 57 points from 35 games this season and will be playing the Clarets who have collected 54 points from 36 games.
Wenger’s men will have to be at their best to win the match and will be hoping to make it an easy run to the sixth spot. The Gunners are not doing well in the league having lost all six of their away matches in the league this year, the latest of which came last week at Old Trafford.
This week they will be hosting Burnley who have had an incredible run. Wenger will have to keep his chin up and put out a strong side to beat the Clarets. This is how they can be expected to line up.
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Defence
Petr Cech can be expected to play in goal. Hector Bellerin will play as a right back with Nacho Monreal at left back. With Laurent Koscielny out injured, Calum Chambers could get a start at central defence next to Shkodran Mustafi.
Midfield
Jack Wilshere will probably play at central midfield next to Granit Xhaka with Mesut Ozil ahead of them in the number 10 role.
Attack
Alexandre Lacazette can be expected to play on the left wing with Henrikh Mkhitaryan on the right. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will lead the line.
