Stoke City defender is keen on moving back to the States and team up with one of the Major League Soccer teams. The 32-year-old found life to be hard at the bet365 during his team’s fight against relegation. Now that the Potters have dropped down to the Championship, the prospects of returning home does not sound too bad.

Cameron has appeared in 186 games for Stoke City and is coming off his 6th season in the Premier League. He has been capped 55 times for the United States national team, his last appearance being in the 2016 Copa America Centenario alongside VfL Wolfsburg defender, John Brooks.

Losing him will be hard on Stoke’s challenge for the Championship title especially if any of the first team partners like Ryan Shawcross, Bruno Martins Indi or Kevin Wimmer joins him on the exit path.

The club somehow failed to hold up their resistance against top-tier sides and now it remains to be seen what Gary Rowett manages to do with the side.

Winning promotion will be ridiculously tough with the financial constraints the club is set to face in the coming months. However, there is no denying that a replacement will have to be found for Geoff Cameron.

Here are a few candidates the newly appointed Rowett should consider.

James Collins

The 34-year-old veteran who is not wanted by West Ham United has expressed ‘heartbreaking’ emotions on his departure from the London stadium. But Collins still has a few more years of football left in him.

The Welshman is experienced, gritty and physically imposing on opposition forwards. He could fill in the leaks perfectly whenever called upon.

Tommie Hoban

Hoban has not featured for a single Watford game last season and currently sits behind established names like Molla Wague, Sebastian Prodl, Christian Kabasele and Craig Cathcart in the pecking order. The 24-year-old might just be ready to escape the Vicarage nightmare and Stoke City could the right fit for his needs.

Lamine Kone

The 29-year-old is still up for grabs, now that Sunderland has been relegated to the League One. Kone has struggled throughout the previous campaign with injuries but started to come into his own in the late stages. He has played valuable minutes in French top-flight and is capable of solidifying the backline.

Not only will he be cheap, Kone could also fill in as a perfect defender having previously played in the 3-man back formation.
