Manchester United are set to miss out on Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar amidst speculation linking him with a move to Old Trafford. According to recent reports, the Serie A ace is happy at Milan and is willing to stay at the San Siro beyond this summer. It is believed that the Slovakian centre-back won’t leave the Italian giants during this ongoing transfer window.
He has been linked with a whole host of clubs which include Manchester United and Manchester City. In a recent interview, the Slovakian international addressed his future and was quoted to have said, “I don’t worry about transfer rumours,”
“The objective was to reach the Champions League with Inter. I’m happy in Milan, I’ve never played for a move away from Italy, we’ve never discussed my future.
“Milan will stay in Milan, we want to have an excellent Champions League and finish higher up in the league.”
Skriniar featured in 40 matches for Inter Milan last season with 4 goals to his name in all competitions. He has been in a rich vein of form for the Milan side this year which has attracted the attention of the Red Devils. However, with the defender set to stay at San Siro, it will be a big blow for United as they look to revamp their squad ahead of the new season.
United finished their campaign as the runners-up in the English top-flight but had another trophyless season which will be a cause for concern for the 13-time Premier League champions. Hence, Mourinho should look to bring in some quality players this summer if his team are to challenge for major silverware next term.
The addition of Skriniar would have undoubtedly bolstered Mourinho’s defensive options at Old Trafford. United have an array of talented defenders such as Victor Lindelof, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Daley Blind, Eric Bailly and Marcos Rojo competing for a place in United’s starting XI. The potential acquisition of a top-class centre-back like Skriniar will definitely improve their team significantly and add more competition for places within Mourinho’s squad.

The Slovakian is quite versatile and primarily operates as a centre-back but can also play in central midfield which makes him a great asset for any of his potential suitors. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Skriniar and whether United will still come back in with an offer for him this summer.
