Arsenal transfer target Caglar Söyüncü is prepared to make a switch to the Premier League this summer. According to recent reports, the Gunners are looking to step up their interest in the Turkish youngster in the next few weeks in order to seal a move when the transfer window opens in the summer. It is believed that further meetings will take place over the new few days and a deal could be done within the next two weeks.
Söyüncü can be considered as one of the most promising young talents in European football and the Gunners will do well to prise him away from the Bundesliga. The Turkish defender is currently plying his trade at SC Freiburg in the German top-flight. He put in a number of commanding performances at the back for Christian Streich’s side during the course of this campaign.
He has excelled in Germany since arriving at Freiburg from his homeland of Turkey and his rapid emergence has not gone unnoticed. In a recent interview, the president of Söyüncü’s former club Altinordu Izmir addressed some of the rumours linking the Turkish talent with a move to England and was quoted to have said, “Caglar Soyuncu is about to change to Arsenal,”
“Arsenal has gathered information about his youth from us.”
However, Freiburg’s sporting director Jochen Saier denied those claims and said, “He (Okzan) knows little about the overall scenario,”
“This is total nonsense. Arsenal did not contact me, there is no offer.”
It is now being reported that Soyuncu is eager to make a switch to the English top-flight this summer with Freiburg willing to let him leave for the right price. Recent sources have also revealed that a number of top clubs are looking to recruit the Turkish starlet with the Bundesliga club asking for a fee in the region of £35m.
The addition of Soyuncu will undoubtedly bolster their defensive options next season. Arsenal have an array of defensive talents such as Laurent Koscielny, Konstantinos Mavropanos, Shkodran Mustafi and Callum Chambers competing for a place in their first-team. The potential acquisition of Soyuncu will add more competition within the Arsenal squad and improve their team significantly in the upcoming season.
At 21, the Turkish centre-back still has his peak years ahead of him which the Gunners could look to utilise in the coming years. Only time will tell what lies ahead in the future of Soyuncu and whether the Gunners end up acquiring his signature in this summer transfer window.
