West Ham United have been linked with a move for Lyon forward Mariano Diaz. The former Real Madrid player, who has become a star at the Ligue 1 outfit, has also been linked with a move for another Premier League, Everton and might be on his way to make it into the English top flight in the next term.
The Dominican Republic international spent quite a few years at the Santiago Bernabeu but was unable to break into the first team given the presence of players like Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale in the side. He made only 14 appearances for the Galacticos and was confined to the bench for most of the time.
The move to Lyon came at a very good time for the 24-year-old and has helped him to revive his career immensely. Having joined the Ligue 1 giants at the start of the present term, the Real Madrid outcast has made 42 appearances in all competitions for them and have scored 21 goals so far along with 7 assists to show for the record.
His brilliant run of form has attracted the eyes of a number of clubs from all over Europe and the Premier League clubs are no stranger to that. The 24-year-old has got brisk pace to add to his agility and has the ability to score goals from a variety of ranges. His attributes have helped him earn rave reviews from a number of experts.
West Ham United are having a lowly season in the Premier League this term and might look to add some fresh faces to their squad in the summer transfer market. Diaz is expected to be on the top of their wish list, given the fact that the Hammers have managed to score only 42 goals this season and are evidently lacking quality upfront.
The East London outfit were in absolute dire straits at the start of the season and went into the relegation zone, which saw their manager Slaven Bilic getting sacked and former Everton and Manchester United manager David Moyes being brought in to lead the side out of the danger zone. The Scotsman has seemingly done enough to get them to safety with a number of positive results for his side but might be looking to bring in a top quality forward to lead the line in the next term.
The Hammers spent well in the last summer transfer market, bringing in the likes of Javier Hernandez and Marko Arnautovic to beef up their attack. However, none of the forwards has been able to rise up to the occasion on a consistent basis and it might not be a bad ploy for Moyes to get in someone as prolific as Mariano Diaz to sharpen his offence in anticipation of better results in the near future.
