Liverpool are hoping to seal a move for Sporting CP midfielder Bruno Fernandes this summer. According to recent reports, the Reds are preparing to make an offer to bring him to Merseyside when the transfer window opens in the summer. However, they will face stiff competition from Tottenham Hotspur in pursuit of the Portuguese international’s signature.
It is believed that the Merseyside club are keeping tabs on his progress in Portugal and have sent scouts to catch him in action over the last few months. Some sources are now claiming that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is currently considering whether to launch an official bid for his services this summer after Fernandes put in some eye-catching displays for Sporting CP during the course of this campaign. The Portuguese playmaker scored the winning goal in his side’s thrilling 4-3 victory over Belenenses last weekend.
The 23-year-old midfielder has featured in 52 matches for Sporting CP this season, scoring 14 goals and creating 20 assists in all competitions. He is exactly the kind of player who can flourish under Jurgen Klopp in the coming years as the Reds look to challenge for major honours in both domestic and European competitions.
Liverpool have enjoyed a rich vein of form of late and find themselves in the 3rd position in the league standings with a tally of 71 points after Gameweek 35. The Reds also have one foot in the final of the UEFA Champions League after securing an emphatic 5-2 victory over AS Roma in midweek. Klopp is now preparing his side to see off Stoke City at Anfield this weekend before their crucial second leg tie in Rome next week.
The potential acquisition of Fernandes will definitely bolster Klopp’s midfield options ahead of the new campaign. The Merseyside club have the likes of James Milner, Jordan Henderson, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Georginio Wijnaldum and Ben Woodburn vying for a place in the Reds’ starting eleven with the impending arrival of Naby Keita this summer. The addition of Fernandes will improve their squad depth significantly and add more competition for places within Klopp’s team.
At 23, the Portuguese international is yet to reach his peak years which Liverpool could look to benefit from, in the near future. Only time will tell what lies ahead in the future of Fernandes and whether he ends up making a switch to Anfield this summer in search of more challenging adventures.
