Chelsea have been linked with a relatively unknown Ukranian midfielder Orest Kuzyk. He currently plays for Stal Kamianske, who are a second division side in the Ukranian League. He is an attacking midfielder and according to Ukranian press, the West London outfit has been keeping tabs on him by sending scouts to watch him play.
Apart from the Blues, Benfica and Porto are also being linked with the 22-year-old midfielder. He hasn’t represented his national team as of now but has played for them in various youth tournaments. He started his career with the Ukranian heavyweights Dynamo Kyiv and used to play in their youth academy. He didn’t manage to make a senior appearance for them and to get regular playing chance he went to Fc Hoverla on loan. He joined his current club Stal in 2016 and has impressed for them this season as he made 26 appearances and scored 6 goals. On the back of such performances, he has been called to the national squad but is yet to make his debut.
Chelsea have had a poor season this year as they are lagging behind in the fifth spot. Antonio Conte failed to recreate his last year’s magic as the Blues have been poor in all the departments this year. Chelsea’s title-winning success last year was built on the back of strong defensive performance but this year they have been leaking goals and have failed to keep clean sheets. Their experienced stalwarts like Gary Cahill and David Luiz have had a poor season and this hasn’t helped Conte’s cause.
Another area where they have had a problem this year is in front of the goal. After Diego Cost’s departure, Chelsea made the big summer signing of Alvaro Morata but the Spaniard has failed to lit up thePremier League.
Chelsea’s season hinges on the FA Cup tournament as they are in the semi-finals and will be facing Southampton who are in a relegation scrap in the Premier League. Chelsea’s season has gone haywire as their new signings like Morata and Bakayoko have failed to get going in the Premier League.
Kuzyk is an unknown quantity but seems that he is highly talented as he is being pipped as the Ukranian second division’s best player. Chelsea will be on the lookout for players in the summer to bolster their squad to mount up a title challenge next year. It will be interesting to see whether they will go for big proven names or relatively unknown talents.
