Transfer Speculation
Yeovil Town’s blossoming youngster, Tom James, has attracted a lot of attention of late owing to his form in League Two this season. As per one of the latest reports by Independent, Scottish giants, Celtic, are closely monitoring James and are battling two Premier League sides, Swansea City and Bournemouth, to secure his services.
Fact File
James emerged through the youth ranks of Cardiff City, having joined the club back in 2004, and in 2014, he was handed his first senior appearance for the Bluebirds. However, he couldn’t cement his place and after spending 13 years, he left the club to sign for Yeovil Town in search of regular first-team action. Ever since his move, he has shown immense development in his calibre.
Attributes
The 21-year-old is a modern day fullback and is unarguably one of the finest talents that the English fourth division has on offer. He is quick, mobile and is capable enough to knit a fine balance between his offensive and defensive endeavours. Besides, the manner in which he reads the game has been quite decent and no wonder why the football fraternity is keeping close tabs on him.
The Battle And Celtic’s Chances
A move to the Premier League must appeal a developing starlet like him owing to the lucre and competitiveness that the league offers. With the Cherries and the Swans keen to prise him out of the Huish Park, it would not be easy for the Bhoys to tempt him to make a move to the Celtic Park. However, the reigning Scottish champions have their own perks to offer.
The Celts would be aiming to pave their way to the group stages of the Champions League once again next season and plying his trade in the grandest stage of European football may just sway him to the idea of moving to the ranks of Brendan Rodgers. Besides, Celtic’s domestic superiority for quite some seasons has been exemplary and there is no denying that they are on the verge of lifting the Scottish Premiership title once again at the end of this season.
Why Celtic Need Him
Mikael Lustig has been a shadow of his former self for the Hoops this season and Anthony Ralston has to prove his mettle to feature regularly. James would be an exciting option and further, he is capable enough to play as the centre-back as well and his versatility should help Rodgers in the upcoming seasons if he is made to sign on the dotted line in the summer.
