Former PL Flop Emerge As Shock Candidate To Replace Conte: Should Chelsea Be Wary Of Him?

It is now being reported that Chelsea football club are seeking to appoint Louis Van Gaal. The Dutchman has had a decorated career with several clubs and country alike. His biggest achievement was when he took charge of his home country the Netherlands and led them to the semi-finals of the 2014 FIFA World Cup and eventually finished third in the tournament beating hosts Brazil 3-0 in the third-place match.

Chelsea are having a difficult season this time around. After a disastrous 2015-16 season that saw Chelsea finish 10th in the league table, a certain Italian manager was brought into the frame. Antonio Conte’s arrival to Chelsea last season was a comparatively low-key affair in England. It was not because the Italian tactician is not popular in the world of football but the story of Conte was eclipsed by the drama unfolding at Manchester. The Manchester war had intensified ten folds after the two clubs appointed long-term rivals Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho as their managers.

Fans worldwide were running out of patience as they eagerly awaited a managerial world war in England with the likes of Pep, Jose, Conte, Klopp, Wenger and Pochettino going head to head. The Manchester clubs were heavily tipped to win the league because of their managers and the arrival of superstar players in the summer.

However, as he had done on four previous occasions, Antonio Conte quietly set to work and took the Chelsea team that had finished tenth the season before to the title. A season later, Chelsea are struggling to repeat their heroics and there has been the immediate talk of dissatisfaction and loss of harmony at the club with Conte tipped to get the sack.

Reasons ranging from players turning against the manager and his training methods, Conte missing his home, Chelsea board unhappy with Conte’s over-exerting nature have gone through the rumour mill. Conte’s struggle means that several managers have been linked to the hot seat at SW6 bringing Van Gaal to the picture to manage the club until the end of the season.

As for the Dutchman has managed Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Ajax, Barcelona and AZ Alkmaar in his club career. His illustrious career has seen him earn 20 trophies and now Everton are looking to bring in the high-profile manager to Merseyside.

Van Gaal’s last expedition ended on a confusing note as the manager was sacked by Manchester United immediately after winning the FA Cup. Whether it will be wise to bring in a manager of Van Gaal’s profile who despite his failure in England will want to set his own new rules at the club will be something to think about for the Chelsea board as billionaire owner Roman Abramovic will not want any other alpha at the club challenging his authority, something Van Gaal is known for.
