Tottenham Hotspur are set to offer their star midfielder Dele Alli a new long-term contract at the end of the January transfer window. A recent report in the English press has claimed that the Spurs midfielder will be handed a new deal to stay in North London following the conclusion of the transfer window next month.
The report from the Times states that the management team of the midfielder are prepared to resume talks with the London club over fresh terms at the start of February. The 21-year-old parted ways with his long-time agent Rob Segal at the start of this campaign, giving rise to speculation that he was considering bringing in a fresh team and push for a move away from Spurs in the near future.
Alli put the finishing touches on his new team of representatives in November, with adoptive brother Harry Hickford set to manage his day-to-day affairs, the Creative Artists Agency handling his commercial ventures, and the Sports PR Company managing his brand image. However, he has stuck with his long-term lawyer Ian Lynam to control his legal matters and it is understood that the North London club will open negotiations with these figures when the transfer window comes to a close in February.
Alli joined Tottenham Hotspur from MK Dons in the summer of 2015 and his rapid rise to prominence in the Premier League has been nothing short of incredible. Although the 21-year-old has struggled to find form in recent matches, yet there’s no doubt about his potential. Mauricio Pochettino is desperate to hang on to his stars and Delle Alli is one of those players who can be a world-class footballer as he starts to hit his peak in the coming years. He is definitely someone who Spurs can’t afford to lose as they try to establish themselves as Champions League regulars.
Tottenham are currently in fifth place in the Premier League standings, a point off fourth-placed Liverpool. Alli earned a crucial penalty in their last league match away at Burnley and is slowly coming back to form. With the January transfer window looming on the horizon, Pochettino would be hoping that the midfielder doesn’t drive any interest from one of the top European clubs before they attempt to sit down with the player and extend his contract with the club.
It remains to be seen whether Dele Alli signs a new deal and commits his long-term future to Tottenham Hotspur as they strive to improve their stature in the coming years.
